Attitude Towards Aging
Swiss people have a very relaxed attitude towards aging. Compared with other countries, numbers of cosmetic surgery are very low in Switzerland, which shows that Swiss respect the fact that they are aging. In public transportation, on the other hand, it can be seen that young people do not respect the elderly as much as some years ago. When I was growing up, it was custom to give up your seat in favor for an elderly. Nowadays, young people are not anymore aware of the appropriate courtesy.
Attitude towards aging
In the last few years, a lot has been done to ease travel for elderly people, such as lowering the steps or raising the seats in order to make it easier for them to stand up again. In contrast to the transportation companies, people seem to make the life of the elderly even harder. Children and young adults seem to have lost any sense of courtesy towards older citizens. When I was younger, I was taught to stand up and clear my seat when somebody older than me entered the train or bus. Hopefully, people will realize that they will age as well and at some point of their life they will be appreciative for every kind gesture they can get.
Attitude Towards Aging
In Switzerland, the attitude towards aging is probably not that extreme as in the United States, but the number of women going through a cosmetic surgery is increasing as well. This fact implies that people dislike getting older, not only as an individual but as a society. People cannot accept that their body is changing and they do everything possible to look like a twenty-year-old again.
A more appreciative attitude shows the system of public transport. Unlike society in general, they accept people getting older. Moreover, the people working in the field of public transport try to make the means of transport more comfortable and convenient for elderly people. An example for that are the lower buses and trains. Nowadays, there are no longer stairs to get on the train, which makes the use of public transport much easier for elderly people.
